The invitation
Read the poem below. Then visit San Francisco and look again — slowly, the way a poet looks — until the bridge, the fog, and the seven hills become something more than scenery. Until, perhaps, you too will call her home.

About
A nonprofit literary brand, built on one idea: that anyone can learn to see their own city the way a poet does.
Twenty-three years in the making
San Francisco Is My Home is American Poet's debut. What began as an impromptu love letter to the city that shaped my heart and soul slowly blossomed into the collection you can hold in your hands. AmericanPoet.com was registered November 1, 2003. The book is published November 1, 2026 — twenty-three years, to the day, in the making.
How the book works
The collection is built to be read, then practiced. You read the poems, learn the tools behind them, see exactly how each tool was used, try them yourself — and then look at the city again with new eyes.
Begin with the poems themselves — the city rendered in verse.
A clear guide to the craft: the techniques that make a poem work.
A poem-by-poem analysis showing which tools were used, and where.
Use the tools yourself to shape your own lines, phrases, and images.
Visit San Francisco and look again — until you, too, can call it home.

The American Poet collection, designed by CoverStory® for American Poet, presents San Francisco not merely as a city, but as a living muse. Throughout the collection, San Francisco is portrayed as a woman — an enduring literary tradition in which cities are personified as feminine figures. Each poem is paired with a portrait-oriented artwork, inviting the viewer to meet the city's character rather than simply observe its landscape. Together, the poetry and artwork create a collectible series that celebrates San Francisco through emotion, memory, and artistic storytelling.
