The Story Behind “San Francisco Is My Home”

Some books are written in a season. This one took twenty-three years.
An accidental beginning
It started as a love letter — not to a person, but to a city. What was meant to be a few lines about San Francisco kept growing: another image, another memory, another road leading west. The domain AmericanPoet.com was registered on November 1, 2003, long before there was a book to put behind it. The release date — November 1, 2026 — falls exactly twenty-three years later, to the day.
More than poems
San Francisco Is My Home is built to be read, then practiced. You read the poems, learn the craft behind them, see exactly which tools were used and where, and then try them yourself. It is a collection and a quiet workshop at once — an invitation to look at your own city the way a poet looks at theirs.
Poetry you can hold
Working with our design partner, CoverStory®, each poem became a piece of visual art: portrait-oriented watercolors that treat the city as a living muse. Those artworks became the Poetry Card Collection — collectible cards and prints that let the work live beyond the page.
The book arrives November 1, 2026. You can reserve a signed first edition or a collector bundle now — every pre-order includes VIP admission to a signing event, where the collection comes fully to life.
